What a Day in La Fortuna

WHAT A DAY WAS HAD TODAY!!!!

Our full day in Fortuna was a blast from start to finish. Buses 1 and 2 started the day with breakfast at 7 am. After breakfast, Bus 1 headed to Arenal National Park for a little nature hike/walk to the lake while Bus 2 kayaked. Then we swapped. After kayaking across the lake, we all swam for a bit before getting back into our kayaks and returning to shore. One on land, we headed back tothe hotel for some much needed lunch and rest. We didn't stop there though. We spent some time in the town of La Fortuna where there was down time for ice ream, shopping, and exploring. Some travelers particiapted in an optional chocolate tour excursion while others used the additional time to take in the sights. One of tha best parts of today was all three buses met up at the Baldi hot spring for a few hours of fun followed by a rooftop dinner at Piramide (located in the Baldi resort).

Tomorrow, Buses 1 and 2 will hit the road once again, traveling to either Monteverde while Bus three kayaks and hike here in La Fortuna before moving on to Monteverde in two days. Monteverde holds a ton of fun for us as well.

I apologize in advance for a slightly abbreviated post. Hopefully the photos below paint a picture of the fun of the day. Pura Vida and here’s looking forward to more fun tomorrow! (Sorry, I fell asleep before posting last night. :O))

Día 1 - Repaso: Desde San José a La Fortuna

This morning, our student travelers woke up in an unfamiliar hotel room in an unfamiliar country with little idea of what lay ahead. Our students were AH-MAZING!!! There were some small hiccups along the way...which are to be expected...but I am truly impressed and grateful to have such a loving, light-hearted, caring, outgoing, and inquisitive group of students here in Costa Rica. Today they traveled a few hours on some bumpy and windy roads, they met new people, tried new foods, saw new sights, asked thought-provoking questions, helped each other without asking, and started making life-long memories.  Our day began with our 89 student travelers in the same room for breakfast. After breakfast, they listened to the EF safety guideline, were reintroduced to our amazing guides (most of whom our chaperones have known for years), and split officially into their assigned buses. ¡A la playa! - Jaco and Manuel Antonio

Yesterday buses 1 and 2 descended from the central plains and mountains of Costa Rica to the Pacific coast and the beach town of Jaco. Our students were ecstatic to once again be on the move and closer to the beach. On our travel day, we stopped at the Tarcolez River for a bird and crocodile safari (successful on both fronts), a gondola canopy tour, and a short walk to and through a butterfly garden. Some travelers seven tasted some termites! This coastal heat is no joke so our students were definitely tired yesterday. The hotels here in Jaco are more comparable to the types of hotels our scholars are used to, and they were beyond stoked to find pools and functioning AC at this hotel. Last night, scholars tired themselves at the pool before dinner and then enjoyed a later bed/room check-in time. The pictures below are mostly from yesterday but a few from today are present as well. Wheels UP!!!! (Plus Night #1 and Morning #1 in Costa Rica)

  Wheels Up! (Plus Night #1 and Morning #1 in Costa Rica) Yesterday was a looooooonnnnngggg (yet smooth and successful) day of travel. We all made it through airport security, onto our flights, through customs, and to the hotel safely.  Yesterday was the official kickoff of our adventure! Sending out a huge thank you to our amazing students, families, and chaperones for arriving on time to both Dulles and BWI and making this travel day as smooth as possible. Last night's activities include a delicious lunch at our hotel followed by room check-ins at the hotel. We then took the kids on a small tour around the city of San José via bus and stopped at a local grocery store for some travel snacks. Student travelers enjoyed about an hour of downtime at the hotel before dinner at 7:30 pm. Believe it or not, many kids were falling asleep at the dinner table.
